Context & brief
The proposal emerged from an extensive study of Hooke Park, its unique spatial qualities, and the legacy of previous projects on the site. Building upon this research, the project establishes a forward-looking vision that both responds to its context and introduces new possibilities for occupation and engagement.
The brief comprised the design and construction of a greenhouse, a boundary wall, and a water tower. Combining contemporary design strategies with references to traditional greenhouse architecture, the greenhouse serves as the project's central intervention.
Materials
Sustainability and material stewardship were fundamental to the design approach. Locally sourced materials were used throughout, including rammed earth produced from on-site excavated soil, hydraulic lime as a natural binder, and timber harvested from the surrounding woodland for the primary structure.
Landscape & construction
The result is an architecture deeply rooted in its environment, where material, landscape, and construction are brought together to create a cohesive and site-specific spatial experience.
